Text aloud

BrowseAloud

This website is now BrowseAloud enabled. This means that the contents can be read aloud to you. This service is completely free for users and requires a one-off download of a free piece of software from BrowsAaloud.

BrowseAloud is designed to improve accessibility to information on the web for people who find it hard to read. This includes people with dyslexia or visual impairments and those who do not speak English as their first language.

How do I get BrowseAloud?

By clicking on the BrowseAloud icon below, you will be taken to their website where the plug-in can be downloaded and where you can also find more information.

How does it work?

Once you have downloaded the plug-in, the BrowseAloud icon will appear in your system tray, which is usually found in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

As you move the cursor over text, it is spoken aloud. The user has control over the voice, word pronunciations and speech highlighting. There is also an option to see the words that are being spoken in large size at the top of the screen and find out dictionary definitions for desired words.
