Staff put best foot forward to raise funds for charity
Kind-hearted staff who work at a Birmingham housing association will go the extra mile for charity next week when they trek more than 26 miles along the city’s canal network.
Staff from Moseley and District Housing Association, including Chief Executive Dave Cusack, will walk for up to 10 hours on Saturday (10th) in a bid to raise funds for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.
Starting in Sparkbrook at 8.30am, the eight walkers will hike along the Stratford on Avon, Birmingham and Worcester, Mainline, Soho Loop and Fazeley canals.
They will take in the sights and sounds of Sarehole Mill and the Gas Street Basin before finishing near the Ackers Activity Centre in Golden Hillock Road.
All funds collected through the feat will go to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, which helps people with a terminal illness to enjoy the best quality of life possible.
The hospice, which was launched in 1979, cares for around 1,000 patients a year and relies on public donations for more than half of its funding.
Housing Officer Peter Helly, aged 40 from Cotteridge, said: “We are really looking forward to the challenge although we are under no illusion that it will be easy.
“What will keep us going though is the knowledge that we will be raising money for a very deserving charity which supports scores of people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”
Caroline Taylor, Hospice Head of Fundraising and Marketing, said: “It’s fantastic of Moseley and District to put together a team for this challenge – it’s exactly the kind of support we need. I would like to wish the walkers all the very best for the big day and let them know our patients and staff are truly grateful.”
Roxanne Moseley, Dave Cusack, Peter Helly, Samantha Price, Gill Howell, Jyoti Sian, Sunny Sandhu and Emma Gaffey will all take part in the walk.
Moseley and District Housing Association, part of the Accord Group of housing associations, supports a charity each year which is suggested by its staff.
